I am the luckiest girl alive. Why? Because the incredibly talented Annie Varland from Love in Real Life agreed to come and give me some pointers on shooting and editing. Not only is she talented but she is kind. We decided to set up pictures for my niece who recently turned 3 in Oakley. It was so much fun. I'm so grateful for the guidance and new friendship I've formed with Annie.
It was such an amazing experience having someone who is so respected in our field be willing to walk me through their process. I learned so much. One of the things I love about photography is that no matter how long you've been at it there is still so much to learn.
When I first started my photography journey I knew that I wanted to take cute pictures of babies and families. As I grew as a photographer I realized that I wanted to capture the essence of a moment and the visible love in a natural family interaction. I think that has shaped who I am as an artist and talking with Annie was like justification that I’m on the right path. She sees her art the way I see mine. We laughed, we cried and it made me feel so energized to continue this journey.
I’m so happy we were able to get together and even more happy that we were able to involve my family.
I can't believe that my sweet, smart, brave and beautiful niece is three years old. I remember the day she was born. The nerves, the fear, the excitement all culminated in this gorgeous blonde baby entering our lives. The last three years have been insane. She's the center of our family. She has brought us closer. She's full of more laughter and more joy than anyone I've ever met. We are just so lucky to have her in our lives.
